146 new case COVID-19 reported today, 1 September 2021

ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

23 Muharram 1443 / 01 September 2021

 

1.            Today, Wednesday, 23 Muharram 1443 / 01 September 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that two COVID-19 confirmed cases have returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.           The first case was Case 1888, who was a 25 year old man that was confirmed positive on 24 August 2021, meanwhile the second case was Case 499, who was a 54 year old woman that was confirmed positive on 12 August 2021. Both cases suffered from lung infection after being infected with COVID-19.

 

3.           In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of the case's families, the Ministry of Health will not share their personal details. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to the cases.

 

4.           In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to Allahyarham's and Allahyarhamah's family and pray that Allahyarham's and Allahyarhamah's souls will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala and are placed among the pious. 5.           Next, the Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and forty-six (146) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 2,858.

  • Today, there are two new clusters detected bringing the total number of active clusters to 48 clusters. The new clusters are:
    • 2632 Cluster which has 29 cases and 2417 Cluster which has 18 cases. Both the new clusters include cases that have been previously reported as cases for which the source of infection has not been identified.
  • There are 43 additional new cases to 7 of the existing active clusters. The cases in these active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
  • Meanwhile, 58 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

6.           Eighty-seven (87) cases have recovered today, where this total includes 13 positive cases from Category 1 that have undergone self-isolation for 14 days at their respective homes. All of them have undergone second swab tests at Day 12 and have been confirmed recovered. With that, the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam has increased to 1,053 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 1,791 cases.

 

7.           Among the active cases, six cases are in critical condition, where five cases require assistance of artificial ventilation. Meanwhile, one case still requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-four (24) cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

 

8.           In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,059 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 235,286 tests.

 

9.           Following the Ministry of Health's press conference on the temporary postponement on the administration of the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine commencing on Wednesday, 1 September 2021 until a date that will be announced later, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public, especially individuals who have reserved a vaccination slot for the first dose that they are not required to cancel their slots or make a new reservation because their vaccination slot will be automatically shifted and they will be given priority when the new vaccine supply arrives.

 

10.        The public is advised to check the status of their vaccination booking via the BruHealth app from time to time to confirm the date of the new appointment. The Ministry of Health is currently working to get the supply of vaccines as soon as possible and will inform the public once the vaccine supply has safely arrived in Brunei Darussalam.

 

11.         Meanwhile, individuals who have received a vaccination slot for their second dose are advised to check the status of their vaccination slot via the BruHealth app in case there is a change of date, for example their vaccination slot is put forward to an earlier date than the original date.
