102 new cases COVID-19 reported today, 02 September 2021

MEDIA STATEMENT

ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

24 Muharram 1443 / 02 September 2021

 

1.          Today, Thursday, 24 Muharram 1443 / 02 September 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.          This case was Case 2932, who was an 84 year old man.  He suffered from several health problems and is not categorised as a death due to the COVID-19 infection.

 

3.          In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of the case's family, the Ministry of Health will not share the case's personal details. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to the case.

 

4.          In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to Allahyarham's family and pray that Allahyarham's soul will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala and is placed among the pious. 5.          Next, the Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and two (102) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 2,960.

  • Today, there is one new cluster detected bringing the total number of active clusters to 49 clusters. The new cluster is:
    • 2089 Cluster which has 36 cases where this new cluster also include cases that have been previously reported as cases for which the source of infection has not been identified.
  • There are 30 additional new cases to 7 of the existing active clusters. The cases in these active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
  • Meanwhile, 65 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

6.          Ninety-one (91) cases have recovered today, where this total includes 25 positive cases from Category 1 that have undergone self-isolation for 14 days at their respective homes. All of them have undergone second swab tests at Day 12 and have been confirmed recovered. With that, the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam has increased to 1,144 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 1,801 cases.

 

7.          Among the active cases, seven cases are in critical condition, where six cases require assistance of artificial ventilation. Meanwhile, one case still requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-nine (29) cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

 

8.          In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,857 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 239,143 tests.

 

9.          Meanwhile, to update the management of COVID-19 patients based on latest scientific findings, guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and patient management practices in several countries, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that the Ministry has reviewed the management guidelines for patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. Commencing Monday, 6 September 2021, COVID-19 patients who have been confirmed recovered after 14 days from the date of them being confirmed positive can be allowed to return home and no longer required to undergo self-isolation at home. However, COVID-19 patients who have been confirmed recovered and allowed to return home before the 14-day period expires will be required to complete the quarantine period at home.

 

10.      With the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and taking into account the current situation is still unstable in Brunei Darussalam and the postponement of the first dose vaccine administration in the National Vaccination Programme, it is hereby announced that the control measures that have been restricted and informed during the Ministry of Health's press conference on 21 August 2021 which is suppose to expire on 4 September 2021 is further extended until Sunday, 03 October 2021. This is to enable the control measures implemented to have a positive impact on the reduction of the spread of the infection.  

 

11.      Let us all practice zikir, prayers and other practices to seek for Allah Subhanahu Wa Taa'ala's forgiveness, guidance, taufik and hidayah so that Brunei Darussalam remains protected from the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.
