BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN AND
THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

Bandar Seri Begawan, 7th September 2017, The Ministry of Health Brunei Darussalam held separate bilateral with its counterpart ministries from Japan, Republic of Korea and Republic of Singapore during the recent 13th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting and Other Related Meetings which was held at the International Convention Centre from 3-7 September 2017.

 

Brunei Darussalam was represented by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Minister of Health and Her Excellency Michiyo Takagi, State Minister, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, represented Japan; His Excellency Kwon Deok Cheol, Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, represented the Republic of Korea; and His Excellency Gan Kim Yong, Minister of Health, represented the Republic of Singapore.

 

During the meetings, several areas of cooperation in health were discussed, including information exchange on best practices as well as exploring new potential areas of health collaborations between the countries. Some of the key areas of discussions were health care and medical training, human resource development, exchange of working visits and sharing ideas on other initiatives in prevention and combating Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

 

The health relations between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Governments of the Republic of Korea, Japan and the Republic of Singapore are established through the ASEAN Plus Health Three Health Cooperation, APEC and the Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) of World Health Organization (WHO) in Asia.  

 

Also present at the meetings were Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin, Permanent Secretary, Minister of Health, Yang Mulia Dr Awang Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy) Ministry of Health, Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Maslina binti Hj Mohsin, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) Ministry of Health and senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
