The Ministry of Health Brunei Darussalam is chairing and hosting this year's 28th Meeting of the ASEAN Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements Product Working Group (TMHS PWG) and Its Related Meetings. The meeting is held from October 23th until October 27th 2017, at the Rizqun International Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The 28th Meeting of the ASEAN TMHS PWG and Its Related Meetings discussed the progress on the development of the "ASEAN Agreement on Regulatory Framework for Traditional Medicines", the "ASEAN Agreement on Regulatory Framework for Health Supplements" and also the technical requirements and updates on training programmes related to Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements following technical discussions from the Task Force on ASEAN Regulatory Framework (TFRF) for TMHS Products, the Task Force on Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Guidelines for TMHS Products and the ASEAN TMHS Scientific Committee (ATSC).
This year, the 28th TMHS PWG and its related meeting was attended by 100 delegates and observers from the National Regulatory Authorities of ASEAN Member States, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Alliance of Health Supplements Associations (AAHSA), and the ASEAN Alliance of Traditional Medicine Industries (AATMI). The representatives from the traditional medicines and health supplements industries, government agencies from local and other ASEAN Member States were also in attendance as observers.
The TMHS PWG Meeting and its related meetings are usually held back to back twice a year where ASEAN countries are able to discuss and learn more about the management and development of the health supplement and traditional medicine industry in the region while seeking coordination to fully tap the sector's potential. The TMHSPWG was established in 2004 as one of the sectoral bodies mandated to develop a harmonisation scheme on the regulatory and technical requirements for placement of TMHS products traded in ASEAN.
An Opening Ceremony cum Welcoming Dinner was held on October 24h, 2017 at the Rizqun International Hotel, which was attended by Yang Mulia Dr Hjh Lailawati binti Hj Jumat, Head of Quality and Accreditation, Ministry of Health, as the Guest of Honour.
