7.00 PM – 12.00 MIDNIGHT SHIFT

AT THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, RIPAS HOSPITAL

 

DOCTORS 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Emergency Department (ED) at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital sees a large proportion of Priority 3 (Minor/Green Zone) cases - approximately 75% of the total number of patient attendances to ED. Therefore the Doctor is needed to cover the Priority 3 (Minor/Green Zone) Consultation area of both the Adult and Children's Emergency section. The Green Zone also includes Triage and Trauma & Procedures (TP) Room 11. 

 

The primary responsibilities at Priority 3 include:

  1. Consulting Adult and Paediatric patients coming to the Emergency Department with any health issues;
  2. Providing clinical management and treatment to adult and paediatric patients – which may include ordering investigations and delivering necessary treatments or procedures;
  3. Deciding appropriate disposition and/or appropriate referral to appropriate Specialty and/or admission to Ward, if warranted;
  4. Provide patients and families on self-care health advice and disease prevention, whenever applicable in the Emergency setting;
  5. Able to recognize danger signs/red flags and up-triage appropriately depending on patient clinical condition and diagnosis.

 PAYMENT RATES AND CLAIMS
  • Rate BND $200 Per Shift.
  • Must complete 5 HOURS = 7.00 pm until 12.00 midnight. There is no pro-rata.
  • Log Book record for verification signatures will be provided.
  • Clinical performance will be observed and monitored.
  • Feedback on performance from various grades of ED staff will be done.
  • All claims require final verification by the Head of Emergency Department before submission to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RIPAS Hospital for final approval.
  • Payment claims should be submitted not later than the 1st week of the next month. For example: worked 5 shifts in February, to submit no later than 1st week of March)
  • Payment claims will be submitted to the Allowance Unit, RIPAS Hospital who will process the payment voucher within 2-4 weeks
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Male or Female.
  • Local or Expatriate.
  • Resident or currently residing in Brunei Darussalam.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Good Informative Technology (IT) skills.
  • Support the core values of the Ministry of Health
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess a Primary Medical Degree (MBBS or its equivalent) AND must have completed Pre-Registration Housemanship and a second post-graduate clinical job equivalent of Foundation training (FY 2).
  • Must be registered with Brunei Medical Board with a valid Practising Certificate.
  • Have clinical work experience in relevant Specialties for at least 3-5 years, although General Practice, Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine work experience is preferred.
  • Must NOT be On-Duty, on Standby, Medical Cover or On-Call while working the 7.00 pm until 12.00 midnight shift.
  • Must get official permission and approval from his/her Head of Department prior to application.
  • Must be familiar with the use of Bru-HIMS (Electronic Patient Record System).
  • A valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is strongly recommended.
  • A valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) certification is recommended.

OTHER EXPECTATIONS

Once the Applicant is successful:-

  • The Doctor must abide by the Good Medical and Dental Practice Guidelines set by the Brunei Medical Board. Any serious failure to follow this guidance will result in disciplinary action.
  • The Doctor must read and sign the "Emergency Department Induction Leaflet for Doctors"An induction/orientation session can be arranged prior to starting.
  • The Doctor should be familiar with the Emergency Department and the RIPAS Hospital system including existing Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).  An induction/orientation session can be arranged prior to starting, if needed.
  • The Doctor should behave in a way that upholds the reputation of the Emergency Department and RIPAS Hospital and avoid any actions that may damage it.
  • The Doctor must ensure that he/she is still able to achieve and maintain his/her main clinical responsibilities of his/her current position and workplace.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 
For Doctor applicants working in the private sector:

  • The Doctor must also forward / cc their application to bmb.brunei@moh.gov.bn
  • The Doctor must familiarize with Bru-HIMs system first and will be asked to attend Bru-HIMs orientation session at the ED RIPASH
  • Restricted access to Bru-HIMs will be provided to successful shortlisted Doctor applicants
  • The Doctor must maintain patient information confidentiality at all times and must not abuse their limited Bru-HIMs access privilege

NURSES 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Emergency Department (ED) at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital sees a large proportion of Priority 3 (Minor/Green Zone) cases - approximately 75% of the total number of patient attendances to ED. Therefore the Nurse is needed to cover the Priority 3 (Minor/Green Zone) Consultation area of both the Adult and Children's Emergency section. The Green Zone also includes Triage and Trauma & Procedures (TP) Room 11.  The primary Nursing responsibilities at Priority 3 include:

 

A.      Working at the Triage Area

  1. Assist Triage Nurse with re-assessment of vital signs and other necessary investigations in Triage;
     

B.      Working at the P3 Adult and Children Emergency (CE) Consultation Area

  1. Assist P3 doctor to call in the patient into doctor's room;
  2. Re-assessment of patient's vital signs as required;
  3. Assist the doctor with any clinical examination throughout the consultation;
  4. Administration of prescribed medication ordered by the doctor to be given STAT;
  5. Able to perform blood-taking or other bedside investigations (ECG/dextrostix/urine) as ordered by the doctor;
  6. Assist any patient who may need up-triage to the P1 or P2 area as required;
  7. Assist patients by directing them to the Radiology department for X-rays, or to the ward for admission;
  8. Assist with explanation of follow-up at clinic, appointment procedures and other generic advice to patients during discharge  from ED.


C.      Working at the Trauma & Procedure Room 11 (Minor Injury Room)

  1. Assist TP doctor to call in the patient into TP room;
  2. Perform or assist TP Nurse with wound dressing of a patient;
  3. Assist TP Nurse with suturing of wound or Plaster of Paris (POP) backslab application;
  4. Assist the doctor with any clinical and/or wound examination throughout the consultation;
  5. Administration of prescribed medication ordered by the doctor to be given STAT;
  6. Able to perform blood-taking or other bedside investigations (ECG/dextrostix/urine) as ordered by the doctor;
  7. Assist any patient who may need up-triage to the P1 or P2 area as required;
  8. Assist patients by directing them to the Radiology department for X-rays, or to the ward for admission;
  9. Assist with explanation of follow-up at clinic, appointment procedures and other generic advice to patients during discharge from ED.

 

D.      Other duties

  1. Communicate relevant information to her colleague or ED Nurse In-Charge if a patient requires up-triage, admission or referral to other speciality;
  2. Communicate or report any issues/concerns encounter during his/her shift to the ED Nurse In-Charge.

  • Qualified Nurse from a recognized Organization or Institution.
  • Must be registered with Nursing Board Brunei Darussalam with a valid Practising Certificate.
  • Have a minimum of one (1) year clinical work experience in the ward and/or relevant Specialties. General Practice, Paediatric and Emergency Medicine experience is much preferred. However those with any other nursing background are welcome to apply.
  • Must NOT be On-Duty, on Standby, Medical Cover or On-Call while working the 7.00 pm until 12.00 midnight shift.
  • Must get official permission from his/her Head of Department prior to application. Approval must be obtained monthly.
  • Must be familiar with the use of Bru-HIMS (Electronic Patient Record System).
  • A valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is strongly recommended.
  • A valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) certification is recommended.
OTHER EXPECTATIONS

  • The Nurse should behave in a way that upholds the reputation of the Emergency Department and RIPAS Hospital and avoid any actions that may damage it.
  • The Nurse must ensure that he/she is still able to achieve and maintain his/her main clinical responsibilities of his/her current position and workplace.
