Career in dentistry

Dental Officers
Dentists are health professionals who utilize the combination of Science and technology to promote Oral Health, Prevent dental diseases to provide necessary care for the teeth and supporting tissues.

Entry Requirements

• Brunei Citizen

• 18-25 years of age (Post A-Level)

Qualifications

•  A Minimum of 3 ‘A’ levels with at least 2 science subjects ( Chemistry, Physics and Biology)

• Criteria at least ABB (‘A’ levels)

Length of Program

• Complete a 5 years degree course (Bachelor or Dental Surgery – BDS) in UK, New Zealand and  Australia

Postgrade Training (Specialization)

• Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

• Periodontology

• Orthodontics

• Restorative Dentistry

• Endodontics

• Oral Medicines and Oral Pathology

• Peadiatric Dentistry

• Public Health and Community Dentistry

• Prosthodontics

These postgrade courses may take between 3-4 years to complete.

• Government Dental services (In Hospitals, Health Centre and School)

• Armed Forces

• Private Dental Practice

Dental Technologist
Dental Technologist / Technician fabricate corrective devise and replacements of natural teeth.

Qualification Required

• Minimum 5 ‘O’ level. This includes Malay, English, Maths and 2 Science subjects. Upon this entry 3 years Diploma training will be provided.

• Related certificated and experiences in Dental Technology

• BS (Hons) Dental technology

Length of Courses

• Diploma in Dental Technology KPLM ( Kolej Latihan Pergigian Malaysia) 3 years

• BSc (Hons) in Dental Technology ( UK, New Zealand and Australian )

Course Structure
Courses consist of practical and academic studies which are mentally and physically demanding

Subject studies include:

• Dental materials

• Dental Anatomy and Physiology

• Complete Dentures

• Partial Dentures

• Ceramics and Bonded Restoration

Dental Therapist is the frontline who lokks after children’s oral Health

• Malay

• Mathematics

• Any Science subject

• Orthodontics

Length of Course

• 2 years
• Local and Overseas – Leading to certificate of DS Assisting

Job Description

1. Chair side assisting dental officer or specialist Clinical Dentistry

2. Cleaning and sterilization of dental instrument as part of infection control

3. Taking and developing dental X-ray

4. General management of dental surgeries e.g.; maintaining cleanliness of the surgery keeping inventory, preparing dental instrument etc

5. Recording dental works done
