TIPS FOR PATIENTS

  1. Brush at least twice a day :
    After breakfast & before you sleep
  2. Bleeding means more tooth-brushing, not less: Brush & Floss areas where gums bleed
  3. Use Fluoride toothpaste: Children less than 8 years old should use pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste
  4. Spit, don’t rinse after tooth-brushing
  5. Floss once a day before you sleep
  6. Avoid sugary snacks
  7. Visit the dental clinic every 6 months, but daily personal oral care is more important for a healthy mouth


TRAINING

TRAINING OF DENTAL THERAPIST
The Dental Therapy program leading to a Diploma in Dental Therapy is a 3 years program conducted locally. This course has commenced in March 2006 whereby 8 trainees (new intake) have been undergoing dental training.
The Diploma in Dental Therapy holder will be trained to handle both children and adults and their main function is to augment the dental services provided by dentists in the country.
 
               DENTAL SURGERY ASSISTANT (DSA) TRAINING
  1. Introductory Course (locally)
  2. Basic Training (Overseas - MAL): Certificate of Dental Surgery Assistant
  3. Basic Training (Locally): Certificate of Dental Surgery Assistant
  4. Post Basic Training (Overseas – UK & AUS): Certificate of Advanced Studies
  5. Post Basic Training (Overseas - AUS):
    Certificate IV in Dental Assisting (Specialised Area)
  6. Post Basic Training (Overseas - MAL):
    Certificate of Attendance (Dental Xrays)
 


ORAL HEALTH PROMOTION

  1. Oral Health Education for school children
     
  2. Comprehensive Oral Health Programme for
    1. Antenatal mothers
    2. Parents and infants
    3. Parents and toddlers
    4. Parents and pre-school children
       
  3. Oral Health Promotion Activities for the Community (Campaigns/ Mass Media/ Conventions/ Open Days/ Exhibitions/ Career Talks/ Forums)
     
  4. Training of Community Health Nurses and Teachers in Oral Health Education
