PERIODONTOLOGY

The Periodontology team consists of specialists supported by dental surgery assistants.

They are based in the main referral centers which are the RIPAS Specialist Dental Clinic and the National Dental Centre.

Most referrals are common diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis, followed by medically compromised patients, drug induced gingival overgrowth and pregnancy associated gingivitis.

Other advanced cases seen are those in conjunction with orthodontics e.g. frenectomy and sulcus augmentation and also prosthodontics e.g. crown lengthening and bone grafting.

PROSTHODONTIC

In Brunei, crowns and bridges are categorized as advanced restorative treatment.
Provision of crowns and bridges are provided by specialists with further postgraduate qualification and training in fixed prosthodontic

DENTAL LAB

Dental laboratory services in Brunei started in the 1950s
This service was improved with the effort of 2 qualified dental technicians during the 1970s in the then General Hospital, Bandar Seri Begawan
Services in Belait, Tutong and Temburong started in 1987.
When the National Dental Centre was opened in Old Airport in 2001, a new dental laboratory was set up in the building catering for patients in Brunei Muara district.

Source of referrals:

Referrals from Dental Officers in National Dental Centre.
Peripheral dental clinics in Brunei Muara, Tutong, Belait, Temburong districts.
Jerudong Park Medical Centre and other private dental clinics.
