Kementerian Kesihatan ingin memaklumkan kepada
orang ramai bahawa ubat gigi yang mengandungi
Diethylene Glycol telah ditarik balik di Amerika
Syarikat (USA) dan Singapura.
Berikutan laporan daripada “Food and Drug
Administration (FDA)” di Amerika Syarikat, ubat
gigi dari China telah ditarik balik dari pasaran
kerana ianya didapati mengandungi Diethylene
Glycol. Ubat gigi tersebut ialah seperti
berikut:

Singapura, juga telah menarik balik dari pasaran
ubat gigi yang tersenarai di bawah kerana
didapati mengandungi Diethylene Glycol:

Maxam Toothpaste with
Fluoride

Pada masa ini Kementerian
Kesihatan tidak menerima sebarang laporan
mengenai keracunan ubat gigi yang mengandungi
Diethylene Glycol, tetapi pendedahan yang
berpanjangan adalah menjadi risiko kepada
kanak-kanak dan individu yang mempunyai penyakit
hati dan buah pinggang.
Walaupun ubat gigi sememangnya bukan untuk
dimakan, Kementerian Kesihatan mengambil berat
tentang pengguna-penguna yang tertelan ubat gigi
yang mengandungi Diethylene Glycol. Beberapa
tahun kebelakangan, kematian dan kecederaan
pesakit telah dilaporkan di negara-negara lain
yang disebabkan oleh memakan ubat batuk yang
dicemari oleh Diethylene Glycol.
Kementerian Kesihatan melalui Unit
Penguatkuasaan Farmasi, Jabatan Perkhidmatan
Farmasi telah menjalankan pemeriksaan dan
mendapati ubat gigi Maxam (Maxam Toothpastes) di
bawah, yang mengandungi Diethylene Glycol, ada
dijual di pasaran:

Maxam Toothpaste with
Fluoride

Maxam Triple Action
Bagi memastikan keselamatan
orang ramai, Kementerian Kesihatan telah
menasihatkan pengimpot-pengimpot supaya
menarikbalik ubat gigi yang tersenarai di atas
dari pasaran dan para menasihatkan pengguna
supaya tidak menggunakan ubat gigi tersebut
hingga pemberitahuan yang lanjut.

The Ministry of Health
wishes to inform the public that toothpastes
containing Diethylene Glycol were recalled in
USA and Singapore.
Based on the report from
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the
following toothpastes from China were withdrawn
from the market because they were found to
contain Diethylene Glycol.

In Singapore, the following
toothpastes were also recalled from the market
because they were found to contain Diethylene
Glycol.

Although the Ministry of
Health is not presently aware of any report of
poisoning from toothpaste containing Diethylene
Glycol, however there is a potential risk from
chronic exposure to children and individuals
with kidney or liver disease.
Toothpaste is not intended
to be swallowed but the Ministry of Health is
concerned about unintentional swallowing or
ingestion of toothpaste containing Diethylene
Glycol. Over the past several years, patient
deaths and injuries as a result of ingesting
cough syrups contaminated with Diethylene Glycol
have been reported in other countries.
The Ministry of Health
through the Pharmacy Enforcement Section,
Department of Pharmaceutical Services has
conducted inspection and the following Maxam
Toothpastes containing Diethylene Glycol were
found available for sale in the market:

Maxam Triple Action
In the interest of public
safety, the Ministry of Health has advised the
importers to recall the said toothpastes from
the market and would also like to advise the
consumers to stop using the said toothpastes
until further notice.
