Vision, Mission and Functions

The vision of DCD aligns with the Department and the Ministry's vision 2035 which is to work together towards a healthy nation.

The missions of DCD include improving the overall health status of the population through prevention and control of diseases in the country.

DCD functions as the national surveillance centre for all the infectious diseases gazetted under the Infectious Diseases Act (2010) and include any infectious diseases of public health importance. Its main functions are disease surveillance, disease prevention and disease control. It is responsible for the surveillance, epidemiology investigation, prevention and control of communicable diseases in the public.

Although much of the DCD activities are currently focusing on communicable diseases, the division has gradually increased its scope of work to include surveillance of other public health emergencies.
