197 new cases COVID-19 reported today, 20 August 2021

MEDIA STATEMENT
ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
11 Muharram 1443 / 20 August 2021

 
1.             Today, Friday 11 Muharram 1443 / 20 August 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that this afternoon, one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 
2.             The late patient (Allahyarham) was Case 849 of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam, who was a 70 year old local male and was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit at the relevant Centre on the night of 19 August 2021 due to a heart attack and is not categorised as death due to COVID-19.
 

3.             In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of Allahyarham's family, the Ministry of Health will not share the personal details of the deceased. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to Allahyarham.
 

4.             In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to Allahyarham's family and pray that his soul will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala and that he is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.
 

5.             Next, the Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and ninety seven (197) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 1,333.

 
6.             This increase includes 106 new cases of outstanding laboratory tests, whereas 91 cases are from tests conducted by the Laboratory Services Department in the last 24 hours.
 

7.             For the 197 new cases,

  • Additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:
    • 27 cases for the Chung Hua KB Cluster;
    • Champion 7 and Surrounding Vessels Cluster is as the following division:
      • 25 cases for Champion 7 Cluster – Blue Titanium;
      • 10 cases for Champion 7 Cluster – Posh Elegance;
      • 10 cases for Champion 7 Cluster – Platform; and
      • 1 case for Champion 7 Cluster – Others.
    • 10 cases for The Mall Cluster;
    • 10 cases for Immigration Cluster;
    • 6 cases for PA Cluster;
    • 6 cases for Al-Falah/Freda-Radin;
    • 5 cases for BSP HQ Cluster (Block M);
    • 5 cases for 583 Cluster;
    • 3 cases for ABCi Cluster; dan
    • 1 case for IBTE KB Cluster.

       
  • Meanwhile, 1 new cluster have been identified:
    • 4 new cases today are related to Case 884 that was reported on 18 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the 884 Cluster.

 

  • Meanwhile, there are 74 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.

 

  • The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

 

  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 
8.             Meanwhile, eight (8) cases have recovered today bringing the total of recovered cases to 351 cases. This means, a total of 979 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.
 
9.             Among the active cases, three cases are in critical condition, where two cases require ventilators and one case requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty cases have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring. Of these 23 cases who are admitted at the Intensive Care Unit, only one had received a complete COVID-19 vaccine injection.
10.         In the past 24 hours, a total of 4,618 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 189,086 tests.

 
11.         On this occasion, the Ministry of Health is pleased to inform the public that to increase the capacity of the National Vaccination Programme, one more Vaccination Centre will be opened tomorrow, Saturday 21 August 2021. This Vaccination Centre will be situated at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and will operate every Monday til Thursday and Saturday, from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. This Vaccination Centre will only receive members of the public who have reserved for a vaccination slot through the BruHealth App, of which was opened since midnight yesterday. 
 

12.         Meanwhile, any individual who has reserved for a COVID-19 vaccination slot at any Vaccination Centre must ensure he/she has received a reservation confirmation via short messaging messages (SMS) or a QR code notification through the BruHealth App. Members of the public who have made reservations are also advised to attend at least half an hour before the reservation time. Public should not come too early as this will cause congestion at the vaccination centres.

 
13.         The Ministry of Health would also like to remind that anyone who has a red code on their BruHealth App and has a COVID-19 vaccination reservation slot to not attend any of the vaccination centres. The vaccination reservation must be cancelled, and a new reservation can be made through the BruHealth App or by calling the Health Advice Line 148.
 

14.         At this opportunity, let us all ask for the help of Allah Subhanahu Wa'Taala to relieve us from all forms of disaster, harms and diseases, and to heal all our patients especially those who have been infected with COVID-19.
