6 new case COVID-19 reported today, 21 December 2021

MEDIA STATEMENT 

ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19 

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

  1. Today, Tuesday, 16 Jamadilawal 1443 / 21 December 2021, a total of six (06) new cases of COVID-19 infection has been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 15,418.
  • Of the total, 5 are local cases and 1 is an import case.
  • The number of new cases is the result of 3,564 laboratory tests conducted in the past 24 hours. Therefore, the rate of positive case today is 0.2%. 


  1. Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, there is no case is in Category 4 (requiring oxygen assistance and under close monitoring) and one (01) case is in Category 5 (requiring assistance of artificial ventilation and treated at the Intensive Care Unit). 


  1. 37 cases have recovered today, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 15,150 cases and the total active cases are 168 cases. Meanwhile, the bed occupancy rate in isolation centres nationwide is 3.9%. 


  1. As of yesterday, 20 December 2021, the accomplishments of the National Vaccination Programme are as follows:
          • The overall rate of the population who have received at least one dose of the vaccine is 94.4%;
          • The rate of those who have received two doses of the vaccine is 92.5%; while 
          • The rate of those who have received three doses of the vaccine is 9.1%. 


  1. Furthermore, following the Ministry of Health’s press conference on 13 December 2021 on the administration of the third dose to individuals aged 18 years and above and have completed two doses of the vaccination, the Ministry of Health would like to announce that vaccination bookings for the third dose or booster dose via the BruHealth app will be open tomorrow, 22 December 2021 at 12:00 noon. Members of the public who wish to make the third dose booking must first update their respective BruHealth app via the Google Play Store or App Store to enable the booking to be made. Booking for the third dose slot will be open from 23 December 2021. 


However, the administration of the third dose via walk-in is still open only to the elderly, pregnant mothers and differently-abled persons. 


Currently, the administration of the third dose or booster dose in Brunei Darussalam is using the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine, subject to stock availability at the vaccination centre. Scientific studies have found that the use of both types of vaccines as a third dose or booster dose are effective and safe to enhance the immunity in the body and provide protection against the COVID-19 infection, regardless of the type of initial vaccine that has been received as the first and second dose.


  1. For the movement restrictions that was carried out recently from 10 pm until 4 am, Alhamdulillah, no violation of the directive nationwide was issued with compound fines.
