DSS achieves ISO/IEC 17015:2017 accreditation

​DEPARTMENT OF SCIENTIFIC SERVICES ACHIEVES ISO/IEC 17015:2017 ACCREDITATION IN THE FIELD OF FORENSIC TESTING

 

Thursday, 27 Syawal 1444H / 18 May 2023 – The Department of Scientific Services, Ministry of Health through the Forensic Science Division has successfully achieved international recognition of ISO/IEC 17015:2017 accreditation in the field of forensic testing from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board (ANAB) on the 12 May 2023.

 

The Department of Scientific Services had undergone an initial assessment on 28 February till 2 March 2023 by ANAB based on assessment of technical qualification and laboratory competence to carry out forensic testing activities according to the criteria set in the requirements of the international standard of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ANAB supplementary requirements.

 

The award of accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard is proof that the laboratories under the Forensic Science Division have the ability to provide quality forensic testing that can be trusted by law enforcement and other relevant stakeholders. In addition, it also proves that the officers and staff in the Department have the expertise and are competent in their forensic fields certified by an international body.

 

The four laboratories under the Forensic Science Division that have achieved the accreditation are Forensic Biology Section, Illicit Drugs Section, Physical Evidence Section and Toxicology Section.
