Information on Dengue

The Ministry of Health would like to remind the public to be vigilant towards vector borne diseases especially during the rainy season. Mosquitos are a disease carrying vectors that could infect the public such as dengue, malaria, chikungunyam filariasis and Japanese Encephalitis.


In the year 2012, a total of 290 cases of dengue was recorded, in fact this year alone (up until 12th October 2013) a total of 349 cases was reported. Similar increase was also observed in other countries in the region and it is due to the heavy rainfall which lead to the increase of breeding places for mosquitos.


Most of the dengue cases in Brunei Darussalam was reported to be in the Brunei Muara District and a number of them was from the other districts. The Department of Health Services, Ministry of Health is actively taking steps to control and prevent vector borne diseases, especially through contact tracing, eradication of mosquito breeding grounds, spraying and health education to the public”
