Foreign Worker Screening

INTRODUCTION

The Foreign Workers Health Screening Programme, established since 1967, has several objectives, which includes:

  • Early detection of disease in foreign workers

  • Minimise risk of disease transmission/disease importation to the local population

  • Ensure the maintenance of a low level/disease free status of the country

  • Ensure that the foreign workers are medically fit to be employed in Brunei Darussalam.

  • Improve foreign workers productivity.

ARRIVAL IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

The new contract foreign worker should clear the immigration procedures at the port of entry in Brunei Darussalam. He/She shall attend a health screening procedure following entry and if found fit, will be given a work pass and allowed to be employed in the country.

  • The foreign worker shall attend for a health screening within one week of arrival.

  • The foreign worker shall then undergo blood tests for certain communicable diseases and chest X-ray.

  • If the foreign worker is found to be fit, he/she will be given a “Yellow Form” to be presented to the Department of Immigration and National Registration for endorsement of the work pass.

RENEWAL OF CONTRACT

A foreign worker who has completed his/her two years contract but wishes to continue employment in Brunei Darussalam with the same employer will have to apply for an “employment re-entry visa” prior to leaving Brunei Darussalam.

  • The foreign worker shall register for a health screening within one week of arrival in Brunei Darussalam and should bring his/her passport and IC for verification purposes and other supporting documents (e.g. copy of BUR 555).

  • The worker shall then undergo the following investigations:
    - Chest X-ray
    - blood tests for certain communicable diseases.

  • If the foreign worker is found to be fit, he/she will be issued a “Pink Form” to be presented to the Department of Immigration and National Registration for endorsement of the work pass.
